The STEM AmeriCorps program (STEM Corps) will place 40 AmeriCorps members at sites throughout Saginaw County. The members will use the "You Be the Chemist" and "Engineer Through the Year" curriculums to help enhance area youth's skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. The goal of the program is to make these subjects more appealing to area youth when deciding a major in college or even a future career.
STEM Corps members are expected to complete 450 hours through the course of one year. During their term of service, members will receive a $2,700 living allowance, which is distributed monthly ($225 approximately). At the end of their term of service, STEM Corps members will also receive an Education Award of $1,527.78, which can be used toward past student loans or future education endeavors. STEM Corps members will also receive regular training and professional development opportunities throughout the year, as well as experience working first hand with youth, schools and organizations throughout Saginaw County.
