Congratulations to Saginaw resident, Raquel Hernandez who had the winning ticket (#0116) for our 'Fly Away with United Way' raffle. The winning ticket was pulled by Saginaw Spirit mascot, Sammy Spirit, at our Annual Meeting on May 3, 2016. The raffle was another successful fundraiser, raising $7,005 for the Saginaw County community. The United Way team thanks all those who sold, promoted or purchased the raffle tickets. Our office will be closing at 2 p.m. today (February 24) due to inclement weather. Our VITA free tax preparation site at PNC in Buena Vista will also be closing to ensure the safety of our staff and volunteers. At the Monday night Saginaw City Council meeting, Jeremy Reinert, United Way of Saginaw County Homeless Management Information System Administrator, presented a 5 year Point in Tome (PIT) trend report on homeless statistics in Saginaw County. Based on data collected, since 2011 the number of homeless individuals in Saginaw County fell 21 percent. Homeless prevention programs were credited for the reduction in numbers.
