More than 160 high school students came to represent 12 Saginaw County high schools to brighten their community during the annual Spring Into Service Day. The event kicked off at the Saginaw YMCA where students were mixed into groups with other students from different schools.
Students and volunteers worked together at the following community parks; at Hanchett, Stoker, Vincent, Hoyt, Sandhill and Roethke. The volunteers painted picnic tables, raked leaves, planted flowers and helped with other routine maintenance at the parks. Once the event concluded, students reflected on the difference they made individually, as well as what they had accomplished within their team.
“You can watch the park transform and look so much better just by doing a couple small things to help out,” said Chesaning High School student, Alex Guziak, when asked what his favorite part of the day was.
This event is coordinated by Saginaw Community Foundation, United Way of Saginaw County and the Giving Back Task Force. Thank you to everyone who helps to make each of these days possible. We could not have done it without your help!
