The annual Project Independence blitz build of mobility ramps helped 8 individuals and families throughout Saginaw County on Saturday, September 12, 2009.
Labor and engineer volunteers assembled mobility ramp modules to recipient houses during their annual blitz build. Since the ramps are built as modules, they are able to be built prior to the build and can be transferred to a new home when the recipient is no longer in need.
The mobility ramps are donated, free of charge, to individuals in need thanks to grants and partnerships throughout the community.
All labor to build and install the ramps is provided through the following: Delphi Steering engineer department, IBEW Local 557, Sheet Metal Workers Local 7, Ironworkers Local Union 25, United Auto Workers and Carpenters Local 706 – Apprenticeship and Training Program.
Project Independence has been in existence in Saginaw County for four years now and after Saturday, will have helped more than 40 individuals and families. This program frees recipients from their houses as well as allows some individuals the opportunity to return home from the hospital.
Thank you to everyone who helped make Project Independence happen again this year!
