Notice of Emergency Food and Shelter Program Phase 34 Funding Awarded

The Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) is a federally-funded program administrated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Unlike FEMA's disaster assistance programs authorized under the Stafford Act, EFSP is authorized by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act of 1987 (PL 100-77).

Saginaw County has been awarded $79,490 in federal funds made available through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter Nation Board Program (EFSP). The EFSP local board has reviewed all submitted Phase 34 applications and approved awards to the following agencies in each category:

 

Emergency Shelter

  • Saginaw County Youth Protection Council
  • Underground Railroad
  • City Rescue Mission of Saginaw, Inc.

Food Baskets/Food Give-Away

  • The Salvation Army
  • Food Bank of Eastern Michigan
  • Hidden Harvest

Rent/Mortgage Assistance

  • The Salvation Army
  • Saginaw County Community Action Committee

Served Meals

  • Samaritas Community Center
  • East Side Soup Kitchen
  • First Ward Community Service

Utility Assistance

  • First Ward Community Service

 

With each phase, a Local Board is responsible for determining how the funds awarded to Saginaw County are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area.

Under the terms of the grant, local agencies chosen to receive funds must:

  • Be private voluntary nonprofit or units of government
  • Be eligible to receive Federal funds
  • Have an accounting system
  • Practice nondiscrimination
  • Have demonstrated the capacity to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs and, if they are a private organization, have a voluntary board, have a voluntary board
