Make a Difference Day 2013

More than 200 volunteers from local high schools and community groups joined together for the annual Make a Difference Day event on Thursday, October 17.

Volunteers set out to restore and beautify the homes of nine senior citizens and veterans in Saginaw County. These citizens gladly accepted the assistance from the volunteers and the students were equally glad to volunteer their time.

"I really liked working with the other students and helping clean the yard," wrote one student. Another student wrote, "I had a lot of fun today and I would definitely participate in this day again."

Make a Difference Day began in 2002 as a joint effort between the Saginaw Community Foundation and United Way of Saginaw County as a way for students to give back to their community. Over the past 11 years, more than 3,300 volunteers have helped 148 homes, schools and parks totaling in more than 14,000 hours of community service.

High schools that participated in this event included: Birch Run, Carrollton, Chesaning, Freeland, Heritage, Nouvel Catholic Central, St. Charles, Swan Valley and Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers who give today to help change tomorrow in Saginaw County through these semi-annual service days!
