Make a Difference Day 2013

More than 200 volunteers from local high schools and community groups joined together for the annual Make a Difference Day event on Thursday, October 17.

Volunteers set out to restore and beautify the homes of nine senior citizens and veterans in Saginaw County. These citizens gladly accepted the assistance from the volunteers and the students were equally glad to volunteer their time.

Nexteer Family Day Recap

On Saturday, September 14, members of United Way of Saginaw County and its affiliates found themselves at the annual Nexteer Family Day event. Among the pony rides, monster trucks, and car show, United Way was sharing its message with Nexteer employees and their families. Members of United Way handed out goodie bags to kids and adults as they entered the event. United Way shared its tent space with many of its partner agencies also present at the event. Each agency shared information on their community services and programs along with having treats for the kids.

One Week One Street

The residents of Fulton Street were pleased to see a collaboration of groups working together to clean up and fix homes in their area. "One Week One Street" was a week-long project hosted in June, designed to help residents in the city of Saginaw. Close to 70 homes were impacted by the efforts of volunteers in the community by painting homes, cleaning debris and minor home repairs.

Michigan Veteran Outreach AmeriCorps Program

On Friday, May 3, our three AmeriCorps Veterans Benefits Liaisons hosted a booth at the "Hiring Our Heroes" job fair. This job fair was for veterans seeking meaningful employment. The event was hosted at the Dow Event Center and was intended for motivated veterans who were ready to start a new chapter in their lives by seeking local employment opportunities. It was open to active duty military members, guard and reserve members, as well as military spouses.
