VITA Program

Free tax preparation is available to Saginaw County residents who cannot afford to pay to have their taxes prepared for them thanks to the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program and amazing community volunteers. This program aims to help families avoid high tax prep fees, access all credits they are eligible for and connect families to services and programs that will help them increase their financial stability.

Our VITA volunteers help Saginaw County residents process their taxes, bining back 3 million dollars in returns back into the local economy. Our volunteers are college students, retirees, or working professionals. We rely on our volunteers to help us create a vibrant Saginaw County community where all individuals and families can move towards financial stability. For information on how you can become a VITA volunteer, click here.

TRAINING INFORMATION:

Our VITA program has been very successful for many years thanks to the help of our dedicated volunteers. With your help, this program could be even more successful! In order for this program to continue and grow, we need your help! We are always in need of volunteers. The more volunteers that we have, the more we can serve our community's need for this valuable service

All VITA volunteers receive free training and are IRS certified before volunteering! The training is a combination of lecture covering tax law changes and hands-on computer training, held in the Delta College computer labs. The training and all training materials are provided at no cost to the volunteer. Each volunteer must pass the certification testing with 80% or higher at the advanced level.
